This course is for any flute player who has just done Grade 1 (or is at about this level even if you haven’t taken the exam). It will take you through the next steps – the new techniques you’ll need to take your playing to the next level.
It will cover all the new things you need to know if you want to play at a Grade 2 level, including:
- new notes and how to play them
- octave jumps
- new notation – flats and sharps, and how to read higher notes
- dynamics and articulation
- triplets
There will also be plenty of opportunities to expand your horizons by getting creative with your own compositions and improvisation. And there are some new pieces to learn, plus backing tracks to play along with.
So get ready to take your playing onto the next level!
About your teacher, Rebecca Bingham
Here’s an introduction from Rebecca in her own words:
I grew up in Hampshire and learned flute and piano from an early age. After gaining my BA music degree from the University Of York, I went over to The Netherlands to study Classical Flute at The Royal Conservatory in The Hague. The Hague has a vibrant jazz scene and it was there I took an interest also in jazz music. I joined the Netherlands Flute Orchestra for their tour around Holland with the history of the tango. Upon returning to the UK, I studied for a PGCE in Primary Music at Exeter University and have 18 years teaching experience. I coach the flute section of the Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra and work with Sax Is Our Business and The Genie Sax Ensemble. I enjoy playing in a variety of settings – orchestral concerts, theatrical shows, function band gigs, big band gigs and with the worship band at my church.
And you can see Rebecca in action with the Cornwall Youth Wind Orchestra in a concert live-streamed in 2021. You may be near the start of your journey learning flute. This gives you a taste of what you could do if you keep going!
