Back to: Demo – Meet the Instruments, free course
Wind instruments are very versatile and have a wide range of sounds. You’ll find them in orchestras, jazz bands, film and game music, pop music. So whatever styles of music you enjoy, once you start learning there are plenty of directions you can go in!
The wind band you’ll hear in this demo also has a long tradition, dating back to their use in the military (they’re sometimes called marching bands with some added percussion to help keep the pace). You’ll also find bands that combine wind, brass and percussion, and all sorts of other ensembles you can join.
In this demonstration you’ll meet the:
- Flute
- Clarinet
- Oboe
- Alto saxophone
- Tenor saxophone
- Baritone saxophone
- The Recorder family – with sopranino, soprano, treble, and tenor recorders
And your concert programme has arrangements of:
- The Muppet Show theme
- Shanty Tune – a medley of sea-related shanties. See if you can name them!
- Menuet and Trio – a classical tune from the Baroque era
- Lord of the Rings themes
